School Partnerships
Working Together For Student Success
Partnering for Student Success
Planning for life after high school can bring up a lot more than questions about applications and careers. Students may feel overwhelmed by the choices, struggle to get started, or need help talking with their families about what they want.
FutureU partners with high schools in the Des Moines area and beyond to help students explore their options and take practical next steps. Our work includes college and career planning, executive skills, and support for the stress that can come with deciding what’s next. We help students consider four-year colleges, trade schools, the military, and other paths after graduation.
How We Work With Schools
Sessions are available in person in the Des Moines area or virtually for schools elsewhere.
-
Student presentations: Classroom or assembly sessions on career exploration, college planning, executive skills, and managing stress about the future.
-
Parent nights: Practical guidance on the college search, paying for college, financial aid, and supporting teens without taking over the process.
-
Staff professional development: Training on executive skills and ways to support students who feel overwhelmed or struggle to follow through, led by Sarah Bowen, LISW, or Kathy LePage, PhD.
-
Student-athlete sessions: Guidance on recruiting, college athletic divisions, NIL, and athlete mental health from Mike O’Brien, LMSW, a former college athlete and current college coach.
What FutureU Brings to Your School
FutureU adds specialized support to the work your counselors and educators already do. We help students and families sort through options, ask better questions, and turn broad goals into manageable next steps. Our mental health perspective also helps us address stress, avoidance, and family tension when those challenges get in the way of planning.
